Deep Hues in Italian-Inspired Day at Omaha Country Club

Musical tradition and family heritage guided Olivia McCown and Erik Skoog’s timeless wedding at the elegant Omaha Country Club. Bonded by their shared passion for jazz, the two met at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where they both sang as part of the UNL Jazz Singers.

Erik proposed on a romantic trip to Lake Como, inspiring an Italian-influenced color palette of fresh olive green and bright ivory, accented by flushed wine and crimson—colors that echoed cherished memories of their engagement. The bride’s bouquet of delicate calla lilies and hydrangeas added classic charm to the overall floral design.

Music set the tone for the entire day, infusing the ceremony with warmhearted charisma. The bridal party sang as they got ready, bringing lively energy that carried into an upbeat night of dancing. Olivia designed ribbon twirlers for the dance floor that read “Opa” and “Skål,” honoring her Greek ancestry and the groom’s Swedish roots. A traditional Swedish maypole ritual received a playful contemporary twist as Erik held a whiskey bottle overhead while guiding the dancers.

Throughout the celebration, favorite moments were marked by meaningful songs, with jazz selections from Chet Baker and Bill Evans serving as sweet, nostalgic reminders of the couple’s musical love story. —Diane Meyer
