One of These Nights: Playful Engagement Photo Inspiration

The days of “traditional” engagement photos are over. And Lauren Eihusen and Blake Mattey’s engagement photos are a picture-perfect example. Introduced by Lauren’s sister and her now brother-in-law during a night out in 2021, Lauren and Blake’s connection was instant. “What started as a casual night quickly turned into spending the entire weekend together, laughing, talking and getting to know one another like we’d been friends for years,” Lauren says. The pair lost touch after that night but serendipitously ended up in Grand Island in 2023 and their relationship finally bloomed.

To best capture their bond, the couple enlisted the help of local photographer, TRIN JENSEN, owner of TRIN JENSEN PHOTOGRAPHY (@trin_jensen). First, Jensen documented what Lauren and Blake normally do in Grand Island resulting in a series of moments that had an effortless feel. Usually opting for a playfully casual date night, the next stop was ideal. “Love can truly grow anywhere, and a dive bar of all places emphasizes that,” Jensen says. Lauren and Blake leaned into the country and rock vibes of the dive bar with their attire as well. “My biggest advice is to think about what your life actually looks like right now and let that drive your initial inspiration for your shoot,” Jensen explains. “It’s always exciting to dress up and feel fancy, but don’t overlook ways you can remember the season of life you’re currently in.” Jensen also urges couples to romanticize the ordinary parts of your life. “Those are the aspects of your relationship you’ll want to remember forever,” she says. --Sydney Stevens
