Having a skin care routine is important, not only in our everyday lives, but especially leading up to your wedding. One of the biggest complaints I hear from makeup artists is when they do a bride’s makeup on their big day, but their skin isn’t ready. For your wedding makeup to look its best, it is crucial that you are not only washing your face regularly but that you are using moisturizers, serums and exfoliation treatments to allow your skin to look as bright and vibrant as it can for your wedding day. Valo’s philosophy on skin and body care is rooted in organics. Every product that we use and sell is certified organic, and here are a few of my favorites: The Province Apothecary Rejuvenating+ Hydrating Face Serum This serum is an oil-based serum. I absolutely love it because you don’t need a lot and it will go a long way. The amazing blend of plant oils will moisturize your skin without leaving it feeling sticky or clogging pores. It delivers phytonutrients that will help fight the look of fine lines and promotes elasticity in your skin. The Maria Akerberg AHA & Jojoba Peeling Mask AHA & Jojoba: This combination to me is a dream team. You’re going to get natural lactic acid from the sugar beets. The small granules of jojoba are going to help exfoliate the skin without irritating it and the jojoba oil will help prevent blackheads and acne. It can also be helpful for those who have hyperpigmentation. The Province Apothecary Radiant Bath + Body Oil This body oil feels so amazing going onto your skin. It has an incredible blend of plant oils that not only are going to tone your skin, but they will help promote elasticity. It is a quick absorbing body oil, so you won’t be left feeling sticky after applying.

I suggest brides get a dermaplaning facial five to seven days before the wedding to help prep the skin for makeup. Dermaplaning removes all of the dead skin and peach fuzz, giving the base a smoother feel and allow makeup to be applied beautifully. And, for other product recommendations, visit your local esthetician six months prior to get started on a healthy skincare regimen.

Two products that we carry at both of our locations that I think are great for brides (or grooms!) are: Initialiste Serum by Kerastase This product is a serum you use a couple of times a week that strengthens hair fibers, and provides an optimum scalp environment for growth, so it’s great to use on your hair regularly the year leading up to the wedding. Extensioniste Thermique by Kerastase This is a lotion you add to your hair before you blow-dry, offering heat protection and fortifying the hair, helping to strengthen weak ends and combat against all the styling damage that occurs leading up to the wedding—we find that heat styling increases in frequency with all the events leading up to the big day!
