Last week I shared some tips on preparing for your bridal appointment. This week, I thought I’d share what happens during the appointment by sharing some details from my own experience. Knowing that I was having a destination wedding shaped my experience a little differently than it may for others, but the same concepts apply - knowing your wedding venue/location is important. Is it going to be on a beach? In a grand ballroom? At a rustic farm setting? Now with that being said, I want to emphasize a piece of advice I’ve shared with countless number of brides: Don’t buy a dress to fit your theme or venue, buy a dress because you love it and feel gorgeous in it! I can’t tell you how disheartening it is to see a bride walk away from a dress she loves because she didn’t think it fit their venue. At the end of the day, you are going to be the bride standing up there with your groom and whether the dress fits the setting perfectly really won’t matter.
With all this in mind, when I shopped, I tried on a variety of styles. I had identified that I wanted a dress that was a little different and out of the norm. For me, comfort was extremely important because I knew it would be hot on the beach and walking in sand can be difficult. We set a budget and I shared images of a few dresses I liked or wanted to try on. We just let everything happen naturally from there. I had two final dresses and was really torn. I tell brides that are torn to just step away and take some time to let the pressure of deciding go away. Most of the time, just walking away from the excitement and focusing on something else will allow the dress you really love to shine through and you will know.
