I like to create and craft, but to be clear, I am not a creative person - I could never come up with some of the fabulous things I see in magazines or on blogs. However, I do a pretty good job at figuring out how to recreate something I've seen. I’ve been mentally saving inspiration for months, and now it’s time to start putting all of those ideas together. I plan to create quite a few DIY décor elements for our reception and even some pieces, such as bouquets and boutonnieres, for our destination wedding. For the elements I know I won’t be able to build or assemble myself, I’ve already contacted the appropriate vendors. Now it’s time to start the planning process to create all of these pieces.
Since the winter season is not very busy, I’ve started discussing projects that will need to be built with the help of my carpenter. The more you can do and plan ahead of time, the less stress there is later for everyone! My Pinterest boards have gotten a little full with so many “inspiration” images and I plan to build a physical inspiration board of the pieces I hope to recreate. That way I can see all of my inspiration together and start gathering the materials.
The final piece is to start considering what I may have to rent for the reception. Planning ahead for the pieces I will make myself allows me to identify what I simply cannot do so I’m not looking for rentals at the last minute. It’s also possible I will have to purchase some items to get exactly what I’m looking for.
Finally, I will start to put together mock-ups of the final décor items. A mock-up is good practice to learn whether your plan will work as anticipated!
