Choosing who will be in your wedding party can be an exciting task for some, but stressful for others. The wedding party includes those family or friends who are closest to you or who you’ve known for many years. For some this list is long and must be narrowed down, and for others it’s easier. There are many things to consider when selecting those who you will count on at your wedding:
- Siblings and those who have been you’re closest friends are top choices.
- Someone who you can trust
- Someone who is reliable and loyal
I knew I would need someone I could count on to give honest opinions and be willing to help if I needed it. Someone who knows my style and would take that into consideration throughout the planning process was also key.
Having a destination wedding threw an additional curve ball into our selections for our wedding party. For those of you considering a destination wedding, you must consider the cost and travel time that they will incur. That may not work for everyone, so it is important to be considerate of this. When asking your bridesmaids, be prepared to discuss the cost, allow them time to consider and even for them to say no. I approached each conversation as a discussion, included a fun gift and was prepared to give details about the wedding. I was lucky that my bridesmaids knew for some time we wanted a destination wedding and were more than happy to say yes!
