After deciding we wanted to have a destination wedding, the next natural thought was: should we do something back home in Omaha when we return? Of the few destination weddings we knew of, some of the couples had put together either a small party or large reception to celebrate upon their return. This is not for everyone as some prefer the intimate setting of the small group at their destination. However, there are many great things about a reception at home that appealed to us.
- By hosting a reception in Omaha, we would have the opportunity to include so many more people in this big life event that we simply couldn’t for a wedding abroad.
- It was a way for us to share our Mexico wedding with everyone else. We could share photos and videos to allow the guests to feel as if they were there.
- For us, this would be a great way to celebrate our wedding with all of our family and friends.
Our local reception will be a few weeks after the wedding so we don’t want to plan a large traditional wedding reception, but one that has the feel of a more relaxed and casual affair. We plan to share a video with everyone, but also incorporate some traditional components of a reception such as hiring a DJ, bringing in catering and having cake/dessert. Drew and I hope to make our reception feel like a reflection of our ceremony in Mexico so our guests who couldn’t travel can feel like a part of the celebration.
