Lately I’ve been working on the welcome bags for our destination wedding. A welcome bag is a little kit or bag of goodies that is awaiting your guests in their hotel room when they arrive - plus they are easy to custom! These are fun to make for a destination wedding, but many people also create them for out-of-town guests staying in a hotel while in town for a wedding. Welcome bags for a destination wedding present some unique challenges to be prepared for:
- Think about what might be useful to your guests while they are at your destination wedding. A note card or document that shares things to do or see at the destination is helpful. If most of the guests will stay on the resort, it could also be fun to share snippets about the hotel that guests might find interesting or useful.
- Consider how you’ll get the items into the bags. Will you have to travel with the items? Will the resort provide them? If so, what is the fee? Also, who will put the bags together if you cannot?
- Think about what your guests may need while at your destination wedding. These could be things they may forget to pack or could always use extra of!
As far as what to put in the basket - I’ve seen everything from koozies to sunscreen or even drink tumblers. I think bottled water is a must if they will not already have it available in the room, and this is still applicable to in-town weddings for the hotel baskets. Other great items for destination wedding bags include Tylenol, aloe vera, snacks or sunglasses. If possible, think about including a gift from a local shop to incorporate the town you are staying in. Some couples will also include an itinerary of events for the week, if applicable.
Last, make sure to include a welcome/thank you note for your guests. They have most likely traveled a long way to get to your wedding so be sure to let them know how appreciative you are!
