Sydney Robertson and Bret Hathaway met on Cinco de Mayo of 2019 while having margaritas with mutual friends at Mula in Omaha, shared an Uber, became fast friends and eventually began dating. “Bret is so easy to love,” Sydney says. The next year, on a spontaneous trip to Key West, Bret surprised Sydney and asked her to marry him as the two shared a bench overlooking the ocean. The couple’s mothers helped make Sydney’s vision come to life. Wearing a custom Augusta Jones gown with a matching veil, Sydney walked down the aisle to music performed by two good friends, one playing the violin and the other singing and playing piano. Peonies —the bride’s dream flower— were a focal point, with the bride holding blossoms in blush hues and bridesmaids holding white blooms. The reception had a dreamy ambiance with candlelit tables, lush florals and elegant chandeliers casting a warm glow. The couple’s first dance together was a favorite moment for Sydney, as was her dance with her dad. “It was truly the best day of our lives,” she says. The newlyweds jetted back to Key West for their honeymoon, paying homage to that beautiful early chapter of their relationship.
