When Jaylyn Odermann and Tommy Armstrong Jr. met, they were both athletes at the University of Nebraska. Jaylyn, a soccer player, and Tommy, a football player, connected over their shared sense of humor. “When we first met,” says Jaylyn, “he was on a scooter because he had knee surgery. He’s kind of a goofball. He was weaving in and out of things, so it was hard not to notice him.” Over the winter holidays, Nebraska played UCLA in a bowl game, and Jaylyn and Tommy’s families flew in for a celebratory Christmas dinner. Tommy got down on one knee to propose, and the next day, Tommy played one of the best games of his career. At their reception, the couple opted for an “outdoor elegance” theme with matte gold elements. To make their indoor reception feel like it was outside, they put together a backdrop made entirely out of evergreen trees. “I don’t know anyone else that’s done that,” says Jaylyn. “They were 10 feet tall, probably, and there were some that were short and skinny.” To top off their magical evening, Taco Bell was brought in as a late-night snack, as it's the couple’s “one guilty pleasure.” Using elements all their own, the couple, with help from some great vendors, made their wedding a day to remember.
