Abbie Schmid and Alex Cuenca’s kismet meeting was at a Durand Jones and the Indications concert in Kansas City. Little did the two know a couple years later they would have their first dance to a song by the same band. After a year together, Alex proposed, with Abbie’s grandmother’s wedding ring, at the iconic Shuttlecock statue at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. The couple was more than content with their intimate celebration with family and friends, in-person and virtually. The couple paid homage to both families: The priest from Abbie’s parents’ wedding was in attendance; Mexican traditions were part of the ceremony, a nod to Alex’s family. Floral arrangements added a special touch with Cuenca roses (which happen to have the same name as the couple). Abbie’s bouquet was personalized with heirlooms passed down from her grandmother, godmother and mother, tied with a handkerchief from her great-great grandmother. To honor Alex’s past as a band member, a personalized guitar served as the guest book. Eating churros and dancing the night away was the perfect way to end their special day.
