Choosing bridesmaid dresses can go from fun to overwhelming with just a quick scroll through Pinterest. While mix-and-match styles are certainly on trend, I have always loved the traditional feel of choosing one classic bridesmaid dress to be worn by all the ladies in the wedding party. When choosing to have your bridesmaids all wear the same gown, I would suggest sticking with a simple overall design to the dress. While it may be fully sequined, a soft pastel or a bold color, sticking with a more streamlined cut will generally allow the dress to be flattering on a wide range of body types while also guaranteeing a coordinating backdrop to your bridal attire.
I knew I wanted to have my girls wear long dresses to add a more formal flair to our event. When thinking about color, it is best to envision what you want the focal point to be in your photos. Do you like an overall light and airy look? Do you want a mix of textures and colors? Do you want the detail of your own gown to be highlighted? I personally wanted the flowers the girls will be carrying to really pop, so I chose a plum colored bridesmaid dress. Even though the rest of our wedding color scheme is full of dusty lavenders and blush pinks, I wanted a saturated color to anchor all the soft touches and let them really stand out.
No matter what style you choose, I highly suggest taking as many bridesmaids as you can get together and having a shopping day just for them. If you go back to the bridal salon you purchased your dress from, it will give you an opportunity to envision what the dresses will look like standing next to your own gown on the big day. Plus, who doesn’t want a chance to try on their dress again? Getting to see dresses in different sample colors and the designer color swatches in different lighting is also super helpful. Many times the automated color on your computer screen isn’t the exact shade of the fabric you will get, and that is something you definitely don’t want to be surprised with! Whether you are choosing to have your bridesmaids all wear the same dress or if you are choosing the mix-and-match look for your maids, don’t overlook shopping at your local bridal salons. They can ensure that the different fabric choices, colors and styles all coordinate with each other prior to anyone purchasing the dress they will wear. Now that the dress my bridesmaids will wear has been chosen, I can’t wait to finally have all my girls together wearing it!
