For the past two years, I have been lucky enough to work as a bridal consultant for Ellynne Bridal in Lincoln. Getting to be a part of so many “yes to the dress!” moments has been so special and has definitely taught me a thing or two about making the most of your bridal experience. One of the first things you will want to consider is when you will start shopping for this special gown. While off-the-rack (think sample gowns) can be purchased same day, most designer gowns will take 6-8 months on average to come in once your order has been placed. Don’t forget you also want to leave at least 2-3 months before the big day to start alterations – especially if you plan on making any custom changes (i.e., adding straps or sleeves to a gown).
So how early is too early to go dress shopping? I would recommend starting your search 10-14 months before your big day - once you have booked your ceremony and reception spaces, decided on the overall theme of your wedding and searched for some inspiration. This time frame ensures that all available styles that could be ordered before your wedding day have come in as samples to the store, while also allowing plenty of shopping time. Many find “the” gown on their first shopping trip, but you will want to make sure you leave a cushion in your timeline to allow yourself to retry that favorite from a previous appointment before making your final decision. I can’t wait to share more shopping tips with you all, as well as share details from my own experience ... although I’m pretty sure you can guess where it is from!
