One of the most important and exciting steps of the wedding-planning process is choosing the venue. When planning a destination wedding, the venue is even more important because you and your guests will spend several days there. I already shared how Drew and I selected the travel destination, but equally important is picking the hotel or resort that the wedding will take place at. Mexico has so many great areas and towns to choose from, but we ultimately decided on Riviera Maya because of its proximity to the international airport and to several tourist locations like the Mayan Ruins. Once we had the area selected, picking a resort was much more challenging. This is where the travel agent came in handy! We gave a list of amenities or details we wanted in our resort and she narrowed it down to about three different locations. At the time, there was the possibility of children attending, so kid-friendly was important. We also didn’t want a resort that was enormous and having a resort with a great reputation for their work in coordinating weddings was a must!
Our final selection perfectly fit the bill! The resort is about an hour from the airport and the ruins, is nestled in a yacht-filled marina community, has a secluded bay and is well-known in Mexico as a great resort for destination weddings. So now that we have a wedding venue…stay tuned for how we picked a reception venue in Omaha!
