If you're like me, your wedding Pinterest board is filled with lovely vintage and framed chalkboards. This trend has really taken off as it offers an inexpensive way to decorate your reception while being practical at the same time. Need to direct your guests to a certain area of the venue, but don't want to create an eyesore? A framed chalkboard is your answer!
I'm a self-proclaimed "font nerd," so for me, the lettering is really what takes a chalkboard sign to the next level. Some people are born with the gift of gorgeous handwriting or have learned the art of calligraphy. Others may need a helping hand in making their chalkboards look beautiful and professional. To get the perfect chalkboard lettering, simply follow these instructions:
- Use Microsoft Word or another word processor to find a font that you like. Type out the word or phrase you are putting on the chalkboard in the layout that you desire. If you have Adobe InDesign, this is a great program that allows you to alter your text and layout more intricately than a simple word processor.
- Once you have created your design, print it out on standard paper. Take a piece of chalk and cover the entire back of the paper with chalk.
- Put the paper on the chalkboard chalk side down and use a pen or pencil to firmly outline the letters.
- When you remove the paper, you should find a chalk outline! Go back over the outlined letters with the chalk and tweak as necessary.
