Bride Blogger Casey - Choosing the right China Pattern, V4

China selection shouldn't be taken too seriously - have fun, but remember that it's an investment and something that you will likely have and use for the rest of your life. (No pressure there, right?)

I had a lot of fun with my fiance while selecting the china for our registry. We have very similar tastes and have already committed to a color scheme in our home - neutrals of grey, blue and beige. Naturally, we selected a china pattern featuring white, light grey, light blue and an accent of silver as a trim. We went with very classic and timeless pieces, although I was very tempted by a bold, striped pattern by Kate Spade! When it comes down to it, it's your choice and it should represent your personality as a couple - if you even choose to register for a formal china pattern at all.

Here are a few things that we kept in mind before committing to our final choice:

  • If you're worried about your pattern style looking dated in 10 years, pick a neutral set and register for fun accent items to brighten up your dinner table. Think about getting a trendy vase, some eye-popping chargers or fun serving dishes.
  • Take into consideration how food will look on the plates. For instance, a bright green floral pattern might not look as appealing if you frequently serve Italian food on special occasions.
  • Pay attention to the care instructions. If you prefer minimal care and maintenance, consider a more durable set without any metallic trimming.
  • Are you willing to commit to a dining room color scheme now? If not, opt for ivory or white place settings. Don't feel pressured to design your dining room around your china if you're not sure.
  • Don't be afraid to mix-and-match. The only way to tell if something will work and complement each other is to try!
