bride blogger dani: diy boutonnieres

Spotlight

This past weekend my mom came into town for a few days to help me catch up on a couple wedding projects. One of the biggest ones we accomplished was completing the boutonnieres. I am not a huge flower person and had decided earlier on in wedding planning that the boys’ boutonnieres were going to incorporate peacock feathers.

We went to our favorite store Hobby Lobby and picked up our supplies. In order to complete the project we needed some floral tape, a glue gun, some peacock feathers, and ribbon.

Unfortunately, I was so wrapped up in making these that I forgot to take photos throughout the process.

 1. We laid out our feathers and decided which ones we wanted as the focal point and what feathers we wanted to be accents.

2. Once we had our feathers laid out, I took the hot glue gun and put a small dab on them to keep them in place. It is important to only put a small dab, this way you don’t have tons of glue visible.

3. After the glue dried I took my floral tape and wrapped it around the base of the feathers. It is important to make sure everything feels secure—otherwise your boutonniere will eventually fall apart.

4. Choose your ribbon base. On the backside of the boutonniere, put a dab of hot glue on the top of the base to attach your ribbon. Once this has dried start wrapping your ribbon around the base and use hot glue on the back of the bottom base to secure.

I am so happy with how these turned out—and they were so easy to make!! What I liked best about this project is that it is different from the traditional flower boutonniere and it was something that I could make months ahead of time.  Each boutonniere took maybe 5 minutes to make at most—so easy! I have a meeting with my florist this weekend so I am glad I will be able to take this and compare it to the flowers I am looking at.

Hope everyone has a great week!
