Kane and I have decided to take a laid back, low-key, and relaxing approach to our honeymoon. At first we were looking at going to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico or the Caribbean, but the more we looked the more we got discouraged. You see we plan on having a brunch with our families the Sunday after our wedding and we didn’t want to have to worry about rushing out on this in order to make a 3 ½ hour drive to Omaha so we can get checked in for a late afternoon or Monday morning flight. Since our schedules were already limited with my fiancé starting school 8 days after we get married we didn’t want to waste two days solely traveling in order to get to a beautiful destination and only be able to spend 3 maybe 4 days there at most. We started looking at places to visit in the US and looked everywhere from the South Carolina, Florida, California, and many more states. However, I kept coming back to one thought, “I am exhausted and overwhelmed with wedding planning now so I can’t imagine how I will feel right before and after the wedding”. It ultimately came down to me not wanting to have to worry about schedules and wasting time in an airport to get anywhere.
So we have decided to go to Estes Park for a week! This is exactly the low-key week I have imagined spending with my new husband. We will drive from my hometown (a short 6 hour drive!) and spend some time at the relaxing Taharaa Lodge.
I already feel calmer looking at those photos! Some people have questioned why we chose this over something tropical but this works out perfect for how we want to spend our first week as husband and wife. We have our own vehicle so we can be on our own schedule, we can sightsee when we want or relax, and we don’t have to worry about being somewhere on time because we have no flights/departures to adhere to. Also, it’s fine with both of us to take this ‘mini-moon’ now as we have talked about doing a big trip after we have both finished our school responsibilities. I’m counting down the days! 3 weeks until I can wake up and drink my morning coffee in the beautiful outdoors, staring at the mountains!
