bride blogger dani: reception music

Spotlight

I have been working on getting the contract and music lists completed for our DJ, Pure Platinum Music out of Kearney.  Picking music for our reception has been fun, but a little difficult. I am not a big fan of country line dancing and songs such as the YMCA (though my fiancé on the other hand loves it) so we have been practicing our compromising skills on this topic! I read somewhere that you should try to put together a list of 25-30 songs that you really want the DJ/band to play during your reception and then give them free rein to pick and choose depending on the crowd.  I think that same article said that during a four hour reception up to 70 songs could be played! This also allows guests to be able to request songs, which can help keep guests on the dance floor.

We have finally decided on our first dance song, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, but are having trouble choosing a song for our wedding party dance. For our first dance song we have chosen Miranda Lambert’s song Making Plans.

I am also trying to put together a list of mellow tunes to have playing in the background as guests begin to arrive at the reception and during our meal. When it comes to the music, the most important thing to us is that our friends and family will remember how much fun they had at the reception.

If you have any suggestions on music that worked/did not work at weddings you have attended, I would love to hear them! Have a great safe and long weekend!
