With our wedding day just under six months away, things are starting to feel REAL!
One of the biggest items on my growing to-do list has been tackling the save the dates. It is recommended that you mail your save the dates six months prior to your event - if you are planning a destination wedding, even more notice is recommended. This allows your guests ample time to make any travel plans, ask for time off and save some extra spending money.
I found it really difficult to narrow down what TYPE of save the date we should send out since they can range from traditional calligraphy cards to lighthearted scratch-off cards! Since Nic and I loved our engagement pictures, we chose to highlight some of our favorite images by sending out postcards as our save the dates.
Here are a few other fun save-the-date ideas!
Once you have settled on what type of save the date you want, you will need to start working on your content. Here are the key elements every save the date should include.
- FULL NAMES - some of your guests may not know your significant other's last name, so be sure to include both of your full names.
- LOCATION OF THE WEDDING - let your guests know if they need to schedule travel plans
- DATE OF WEDDING - allow guests to mark the date on their calendars
- NAMES OF EACH GUEST - by including the actual names of every intended guest, you are less likely to have any assumed invitees
- "FORMAL INVITATION TO FOLLOW" - lets guests know to expect further details closer to the wedding date.
- WEDDING WEBSITE - this gives you the opportunity to share more details about your wedding
