Bride Blogger Danielle - Wedding Cake V2

You know that girl who is continually staring at - and slightly drooling over - the cake table? Yea, that's me.

I'm the girl that anxiously awaits the cake cutting. Once the cake is cut, it only takes me a moment to snag my first slice. Without much hesitation, I'll go for seconds. If it's really good, I will go for thirds! With that being said, finding the perfect cake has been quite the mission for Nicholas and I. Here are some things I've learned during our cake testing adventure:

1. ASK FOR A PRIVATE TASTING - It can be stressful to taste a cake in front of the baker, especially if it isn't your favorite. Tasting it privately allows you to really talk through what you like and don't like about each cake. Also, some bakers have scheduled tasting dates, so start looking early!

2. INCLUDE YOUR FAMILY - Most bakeries are more than happy to give you enough servings for a small group of people. It's been great to include my parents and sister in the cake tasting experience. Their input helped us choose our bakery!

3. SEE EXAMPLES OF PREVIOUS WORK - Does their style match yours? If you know you want an elaborately-decorated fondant cake, make sure the baker is experienced with and comfortable using fondant.

4. PRETTY DOESN'T EQUAL TASTY - One thing we learned very quickly was not to judge a cake by its appearance! Some of the "prettiest" cakes were the most disappointing when it came to flavor and texture.

5. TRY THE BASICS - Let's say chocolate cake is your favorite. Don't assume that since it's a "staple" flavor that you will automatically like it. Everyone has a slightly different recipe, so make sure you taste it!

6. TRY A VARIETY - Not sure if you want fondant, buttercream or cream cheese frosting? Don't forget about filling options either! The endless choices can feel overwhelming. Be open to trying new things, you never know what you are going to like best.
