A couple weeks ago, my fiancé and I both had a free day from work so we decided to drive up to Omaha to apply for our marriage license. In the state of Nebraska you can fill out the paperwork in any county clerks office, and this can be used for any ceremony performed in the state - the paperwork is valid for one year from the date it is filed. It is my recommendation that if you can apply for your marriage license earlier in your engagement, you should do so. That way, you have one less thing to worry about as your wedding date approaches.
In order to make the process move as smoothly as possible, we filled out the information on the county clerks website ahead of time. All we needed to provide were our full names, current address, birth places and our parents' names and birth places. The fee for the license is $25 and each certified copy is $9. We ordered two certified copies of the marriage license, as one is required by both the DMV & Social Security office to change your last name. They typically give the license back, but in the small chance they didn’t, I wanted a back up!
We are nearing the two-month mark, which means wedding planning is in full force. Invitations have been sent out, and now the real fun begins - we can’t wait!
