As a new bride blogger I am so excited to share the in's and out's of the planning process as I go through it, as well as share any tips and tricks I learn along the way. I think the best place to start is at the beginning.
My fiancee Grant and I met for the first time in high school. We had mutual friends and while we caught each other's eye during some of those initial interactions nothing happened between us until the fall when I started college at UNL, where Grant was already a student. It was one of the first weekends of the school year and out of the blue I received a phone call from Grant - we hadn't really talked much before that call, just knew each other as acquaintances. He asked me to be his date to his fraternity's formal where I had the best first date of my life, laughing and dancing the night away. Now over seven years later we are planning how to laugh and dance the night away at our wedding.
Needless to say that after being together for as long as we have I have thought about what our wedding would be like once or twice...or perhaps a couple dozen times, but who's counting? When I asked Grant what inspiration he wanted to draw from for our wedding he said he would like it to be Lord of the Rings themed. Not really shocked by this I explained that I do love the movies and there are some beautiful scenes, but I would like to go in just a slightly different direction. Thankfully, he has agreed.
I am drawing inspiration from the most fabulous parties I have ever read about, those from one of my favorite books "The Great Gatsby" as well as one from one of my favorite style icons, Kate Moss and her stunning wedding. We want it to feel like the best backyard garden party you have ever been to - full of fun, relaxed romance, with just a touch of glamour. Above all we want it to feel like us.
If it all sounds or looks a bit contradictory quite frankly that's exactly what Grant and I are - opposites. Somehow we work together pretty seamlessly. I only hope our day turns out as lovely as our relationship has. I hope you enjoy!
