After meeting the old-fashioned way, at a bar in downtown Lincoln, Jenni Miller and Coby Makela were smitten from the very first date. After an eventful six years and two children together, the pair were ready to say “I do” amongst the rustic rolling hills of Dismal River Club.
Inspired by the dramatic intimacy of the “middle of nowhere” vibe of the ceremony location, the celebration had a distinctly whimsical and Wes Anderson-esque flourish. Victorian puzzle purses were crafted for the invitation suite, featuring motifs of fish for Coby, mushrooms for Jenni and zodiac signs for each member of their family. Jenni was a vision to behold as she descended the grand hill in her one-of-a-kind embroidered gown with a lush yellow bouquet in hand, her veil catching on the wind. After exchanging heartfelt vows amongst the native grasses, the newlyweds were caught in the rain, which made for cinematic portraits as they laughed and enjoyed the extraordinary moment.
A western-chic reception unfolded with handmade signage deeming the space, “Honeybear Saloon” after Jenni and Coby’s first dance song, “I Love You, Honeybear” by Father John Misty. Soft draping and bursts of sunny florals transformed the unexpected indoor reception, fostering a cozy reprieve from the stormy weather. With the perfect balance of casual and refined, Jenni and Coby treasure each moment of their ultra-romantic wedding day, grateful to have embraced the unexpected.
